Biography

Toby Hadoke has been a stand-up comedian for over 25 years, serving as resident compere of the long running, critically acclaimed and multi award winning Manchester comedy night XS Malarkey since its birth in 1997. He has also enjoyed decade long residencies at The Manchester Comedy Store (presiding over the regular New Stuff night as well as MCing weekends) and The 99 Club, Leicester Square (regular Wednesday MC).  He earned his stripes taming crowds at many a Jongleurs and Frog and Bucket gig, and has played all over the country – he’s equally at home calming a rowdy crowd as he is breathing life into a soporific one. One of the circuit’s most respected MCs he is quick on his feet, verbally dextrous and as affable as can be: there’s not a room he can’t play.

He is also a regular circuit headliner and his successful festival one man shows include Moths Ate My Doctor Who Scarf, which after its Edinburgh Fringe run enjoyed an international tour, West End run and Sony nominated BBC radio spin-off. The follow up – My Stepson Stole My Sonic Screwdriver – was equally acclaimed and joined its predecessor for a double bill at the West End (Garrick Theatre). He has also presented awards ceremonies and is a skilled after dinner speaker, as well as being an authority on Doctor Who, classic British TV and UK character actors: his expertise is often called upon for presentations and on-stage interviews at events and conventions all over the world.

He is also an experienced radio broadcaster, voice over artist and actor whose television credits include popping in and out of Coronation Street as traffic warden Fergus Dunford. He writes for The Guardian and presents documentaries on the BBC Doctor Who Blu-ray range and BBC Radio, and his podcast series Toby Hadoke’s Time Travels has notched up 300,000 downloads in less that two years.
