New Shows, Festival Highlights & International Updates
Spring is here and things are in full swing at Gag Reflex. We have plenty of updates to share with you, so make sure you read on to find out more….
What’s been happening?
It’s been a busy month in Australia with Laser Kiwi and Tape Face both winning weekly awards at Adelaide Fringe Festival. Tape Face also sold out for more than half of his run and was a popular hit with all ages. Ben Hart had a great run with the team in London Calling, meanwhile James Barr smashed his run with several 4 and 5 star reviews, before heading to Melbourne to continue that momentum. Harriet Dyer has been kicking off her run at Melbourne International Comedy Festival, where early audiences have already been responding brilliantly.
What’s coming up?
It’s Jessie Nixon and Rosco McClelland’s time for a trip across the globe, as they both head to Australia and New Zealand later this month! With performances in Melbourne, Sydney, Auckland and Wellington, they’re both set to bring their signature comedy to audiences far and wide.
Jessie Nixon and James Barr are heading to Soho Theatre for upcoming runs, and we couldn’t be more excited! Expect sharp comedy, big laughs, and unforgettable performances from these two rising stars. Tickets for both shows can be found here.
Inside Gag HQ…
Beth, our Head of Festivals, landed at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival after an exciting season at Adelaide Fringe. She was in Melbourne with James Barr and Harriet Dyer, both of whom have been absolutely smashing their seasons! To mark the end of Beth’s time in Aus, they all headed out for a celebratory dinner before she left Harriet and James to the rest of their season! We’re excited to have her back in the office!!
That’s all this month, stay tuned for the next edition in May!
Team Gag x
Harriet Dyer and Alex Mitchell headed to London to take part in Rosie Jones’ Disability Comedy Extravaganza, both delivering brilliant performances and proving a real hit with the audience. The show will be hitting screens this Summer on U and U&Dave, and we can’t wait to watch!
We’re incredibly proud of Kate Butch following her brilliant run on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK vs the World, where she reached the final and continued to win over audiences with her wit and originality. With that chapter wrapped, she’s now preparing to head out on tour before going up to Edinburgh with her new Fringe show. Tickets for A Kate In The Hand Is Worth Two In The Butch can be found here.
Rosco McClelland was back at Glasgow International Comedy Festival, presenting the Sir Billy Connolly Award to this year’s winner Amanda Dwyer. He also sold out both of his shows at the festival, and you can watch his performance at Oran Mor coming soon to Next Up Comedy. You can also see him at London’s Soho Theatre this June.
Live & On the Move – Who’s on Tour?
We have several acts heading out on tour this Spring. Take a closer look to find out more!
Wankernomics – Just Touching Base – Tickets
Starting with 3 nights at the London Palladium, this show is not one to be missed! Delivered in the form of an agonising all-staff meeting, Just Touching Base is a hilarious real-time demonstration of the buzzwords, bureaucracy and bullsh*t of modern working life.
Kate Butch – Choose Your Own Cabaret – Tickets
Kate is handing over control of the performance to you, the audience, as she allows you to select each song, each joke, and maybe even what she wears. Accompanied by maestro extraordinaire Jordan Paul Clarke (Showstoppper! The Improvised Musical and the West End’s Public Domain), Kate will create a unique evening of songs, stories and games, with each show becoming one of at least 8,000 different outcomes (she’s counted them herself)!
Ben Hart – The Remarkable – Tickets
Witness a world-class master of illusion as he reads your mind, manipulates the fabric of existence, and bends logic to his will. With nothing but his hands, a few simple objects, and his newly discovered uncanny mental abilities, Ben will peer into your thoughts, control chance, and make the impossible happen before your eyes.
